Does anyone know any of the details about a meeting to be held this coming
week in Washington, D.C. about the New York Times article on HIV in Africa?
Was there any discussion of this at LLLI? As someone who has done research
on breastfeeding in Africa, and who thinks it would be utter folly to
substitute formula for breast milk in Africa, even if the mother does have
AIDS, I'd like to know more about this meeting. Who will be there? Will
there be any researchers with expertise on breastfeeding in Africa? Will
there be any representatives from African governments or Ministries of
Health? How does one get an invitation? And who is sponsoring this? Is it
WHO or CDC? Is this really all based on one newspaper article, which was in
turn based on an unpublished, therefore non-peer-reviewed study in South
Africa? I'd appreciate any information.
