Hello Netters, Just a quick note about nipple stim. because everytime I see this being posted, I think back when I was a L&D (labor & delivery) nurse. Some of the more layed back Drs. would use nipple stim vs pitocin on some of their patients. They first encouraged the dads to stroke, etc. (use your own imagination) to stimulate the nipples. If that was uncomforable, then the doctors would hook the mom up to an electric breast pump to stimulate the nipples and get the oxytocin going. Never did I experience any detrimental effects with the patients I took care of. It sure beat using oxytocin. That was back in the "good old days. I do not know if they do any of that any more. I doubt it since it does not make any money.
