Jay:
I only know about this drug since it is in my medicine cabinet for my three
year old when she has a bad cold. It is a mixture of 50mg Guaifenisin, 5mg
Dextromethorphan, and 6.25mg phenylpropanalomine in each 1ml (in other words,
expectorant, coughsuppressant and decongestant). The phenyl... part of it is
the same active ingredient in Dexatrim. Hale says it can be expected to
transfer into breastmilk, "observe for excitement, loss of appetite,
insomnia" (p.315 '96 edition). It is not AAP reviewed.
I would think that, depending on the age of the baby and the extent of the
mom's symptoms, it might be a good idea to investigate another decongestant.
