Dear Gloria,

Your experience is very similar to mine. I breastfed my 15 mo, old until I
was three months pregnant, then could not take it any longer due to pain. I
was pregnant with twins. When the twins were born and bfing my son wanted to
nurse again and I let him. It really eased his transition into 'big brother'
 of twins.

About wearing bras and cancer, inverted nipples, etc. It use to be a part of
our teaching to get every mother into a bra after delivery, but I stopped
suggesting this to our bfing mothers. It makes sense to me that the nipple
stimulation would encourage an increase in milk supply. Wearing the flaps of
bras down had been suggested years ago (and I still recommend it) to 'toughen
up' nipples. I don't suggest 'toughening' nipples anymore, but decreasing
bra wearing couldn't hurt.

I'd be interested in seeing the published research. Thanks
