I will apologize, in advance, if this topic has been discussed previously. I have been no mail for some time. Would like to know what the general concensus is on the ABM company (M--- J------ N-----------) $10 rebate coupons for ANY breast pump, bought or rented, that are being provided for nurses,LC's, etc. to pass out to BF moms? Have discussed this with collegues and am, personally, not comfortable with the use of these coupons. I can see 2 sides of this issue, but it goes against my personal priniples to feel that it would be correct for me to use them. The argument "for" using the rebate coupons is that it can make pump rental more affordable for low-income women who could not otherwise afford to rent a quality electric breast pump. AND if we all pass them out very frequently, it COULD hurt the ABM company financially. This point could be argued that the ABM company will recoup their losses by passing along a price increase to the consumer. Anyway, it seems to me to be in violation of the WHO Code and BFHI because it clearly states the name of the product on the coupon, front and back. What do you all think? Am I being overly cautious? Along those same lines, have any of you been dealing with another ABM company (R---) touting their new cow's milk based ABM as newer, better and even more like breastmilk? It was promoted on an early morning news program earlier this week in Memphis. I believe this is, also, in direct violation of the WHO Code. Has anyone had the same experience and, if so, has anyone felt the need to respond to it? Living in the middle of the country, usually we are the last to hear or receive new products/information. Again, I apologize to the list if these issues have already been discussed. You may respond to me privately, if you'd rather. It's good to be back on Lactnet, even if it's only for the Memorial Day weekend. I go thru withdrawals every time I go NO MAIL. Melody Engberg, IBCLC, LLLL Memphis, TN
