I am not trying to start a flame war or anything, but in my experience I have found that most of the mothers on our particular WIC program think of home birth as something that happens by accident, and that mother and baby will then be transported to the hospital. A lot of the mothers aren't aware of alternatives to the standard hospital birth, so it's always unusual when one of our participants chooses a different way of birthing. This mom came to the breastfeeding class on Friday and wowed the other women with her story. I'm hoping to train her as a peer counselor. Pearl Shifer, IBCLC
