Edie Armstrong wrote that she liked infants to put their tongues under the rim of the cup b/c it helped with tongue cupping, and isn't that what we wanted? Gee, I use cup-feeding to encourage the baby to extend his tongue--first use charm hold to tire the tongue then cup-feed (with the center of the cup on the center of the baby's bottom lip and fluid just up to lip)--often using just water b/c mom doesn't have any EBM or colustrum--until baby extends tongue and laps well--the *wisk* the munchkin to breast. Doesn't work 100% of the time, but my success rate is high enough that I keep trying it...... Karen Zeretzke Baton Rouge, Louisiana [log in to unmask]
