M - O - T - H - E - R
"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell
                  "MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me.

          Howard Johnson (c. 1915)

For those who gave us life,
dear Lord, we praise your name.
For mothers who nurtured us as we grew up,
we thank you.

Heavenly Father, as we took back on our childhood,
we realize how secure our mothers made us feel.
We thank you for mothers who comforted us
when we hurt, were confused or bitter,
we marvel at their patience and understanding.
For the worlds they opened up to us,
their affirmation as we explored and stretched our wings,
we praise you, Heavenly Father.

Forgive us for the pain we caused them,
and make us willing to forgive their imperfections.
For their tears and prayers on our behalf,
we praise you, Lord.
For the way they exemplified your love,
we glorify your name.

should they still be with us, may we return to them
a good measure of the kindness they have shown.
And should they have preceded us in death,
may we honor their memory

and follow in their footsteps as instruments of your love.

For mothers who shared their love, dear Lord,
we praise your name.
For mothers who nurtured our faith in You,
we sincerely thank You.

*MOTHER*

Thank You For Being There - Thank You for Love.
Thank You for telling of God up above.
Thanks for the diapers, the washing, the folding,
The changing, repinings and all of the Holding -
The Rocking, the Singing, the Healing, the Smile -
The endurance it took to cope all the while,
With so many children, so many... you know -
I think I'd have quit not continued to go
On with the Caring, the Loving, the Giving,
The unceasing frustrations of everyday living
   With all of your children...
The cooking, the cleaning, the sewing and work.
Honor is due You for You did not shirk.
You did not cease and You did not run.
You did not give up as I might have done.
And so - For those Hours, those Days, all those Years
I Thank You Dear Mother... Forgive me the Tears,
       The Heartaches, and All,
The Anger, the Rudeness, The Big and the Small.
May Mother's Day find Your Heart Full to the brim
With Peace, Joy, and Love. May nothing seem grim.
     God Bless You Mother...
May your heart know how Dear -
          You are to me
Now and each day of the year...
