Hi all! I hate to dignify the recent posts (from a former subscriber) with a response, but I feel that many of us have been professionally insulted. The insinuation that those of us who rent pumps are only "pretending" to be professionals is ludicrous! As in anything, some people with lower (or no) ethical standards *could* certainly put their own gain over their clients welfare. I *will* tell that I rent pumps and feel that an IBCLC is one of the best resources for a pump or other breastfeeding supplies. On more than one occasion I have strongly suggested to moms that they do *not* need a pump. When a client rents from an IBCLC, she gets detailed information and support on the usage of the product, colection and storage of milk, and valuable *professional* back up. She also has the *choice* to get what she needs without going somewhere else and dealing with *another* person. I shudder when clients go to the local retailers who hand the pump over the counter and say "Have a nice day". Does anyone question the professionalism of the orthopedic doc who prescribes and sells braces, crutches, etc? I don't think so. I know this was probably preaching to the choir. It helps to remind ourselves every once in a while.
