As reintroduction of myself, I work at a hospital with about 200 deliveries a month as an LC. I have noticed something in the years I have been doing what I do. The large babies get supplemented if their glucose levels indicate the need. Otherwise, they are encouraged to feed, and these babies often want to feed frequently. The thing that is so positive is that since they are big, we often keep them for two days, and by the second day their feeding noises(SWALLOWS) are obvious to all in the room. (Those big ones are often strong too). Their feeding helps to reinforce the fact that bf babies are getting what they need at the breast alone, and that frequent feeds help to establish breastfeeding. After seeing several babies like that, nurses who used to be unsupportive become much more relaxed about bf. Fritzi Drosten RN IBCLC Mail @ w4 [log in to unmask]
