Over the weekend I identified a tight labial frenulum (correct
term???) on a friend's 11 mo baby. He has a tight upper lip that has
never curled out (during breastfeeding or smiling) and we saw a
tight fibrous tether that is anchored low and pushing his front teeth
apart. He breastfeeds well and his tongue is OK.

I looked under his lip because I recalled reading about this on
Lactnet, but can't recall the discussion. Can anyone fill me in or
point me in a useful direction for more information. Is there a need
for intervention? The teeth are the only "problem" so far. Can it
effect speech?
