A woman nursing a 13 mo old has a section (11 to 1) of one areola that shrivels/puckers/becomes noticeably raised (as a piece of fabric would become raised when it's gathered) at random times and stays that way for hours. It doesn't seem to be related to nursing or cold, tho it is most likely to relax in the shower. There is sometimes slight discomfort there at latch-on, which dissipates quickly. She's taking Loestrin. Her bone density is considered low for a woman her age (mid 30s), no other health issues. This has been going on for about 2 mo, and she doesn't know whether to be curious or concerned. Any guesses??? Diane Wiessinger, MS, IBCLC, LLLL Ithaca NY (By the way, I wrote about this woman a few months ago, when her bone density was even lower. Sure enough, it has rebounded to pre-pregnancy levels, despite continued bfing 1-3x/day.)
