One of the most important changes that came out of the training was that program staff (e.g., clerical) began to feel that they had a role in BF promotion. They changed the way they asked certain questions. (e.g., "How are you feeding your baby?" rather than "Bottle or breast.") They changed the posters around their stations. They make sure the Anita Baker video is showing in the waiting room when new pregnant clients are in. I've even overheard a certain amount of subversive waiting room engineering going on--seating the new pregnant clients right next to the nursing moms, etc. The program staff is the front line, the first & last contact, at the WIC office.
