Lactnetters;

The Lifestyle Editor of the local newspaper is breastfeeding her baby. She
had found some bf information that I had put together, "The Benefits of
Breastfeeding/Hazards of Formula Feeding". (I had written it as part of the
LC course I had taken.)The Editor wanted to feature LLL in her article, and
include the information from my paper. A mother from our LLL group was
photographed with her infant, and the color shot filled a third of the full
page article. She had been recently kicked out of KMart for bf her infant.
The manager told her it was "gross and illegal". He also told the reporter
that she had "just whipped it out..." (Which in Utah, that's legal to do if
bf.) Although the article was full of positive bf information, my personal
story, and a bit about the above mother, the reporter also interviewed a
local dr. He confirmed what I had said about international fatalities from
formula feeding. He said it was because of the lack of clean water, and
scrimping on formula mixtures. Do Third World mothers cry less than we do
when a baby dies? Then the last paragraph...."...he said mothers don't have
to feel badly if they don't nurse their child to his/her third year or
longer." !!! (Even our famous K. Auerbach had her name in our article, but
sorry, the name wasn't spelled correctly. You know how the press is...)
So much for quotes!
