Since this is my first post on Lactnet, let me introduce myself. My name
is Lois Warrington, BSN, IBCLC, and I am a hospital based lactation
consultant. My e-mail address is [log in to unmask] I recently
worked with a breastfeeding couplet that motivated me to finally take the
plunge and gather up enough courage to post after many months of
lurking. I appreciate the wealth of information and wisdom that I have
been able to access for nearly seven months now. Thank you. Lactnet is
like an international classroom! The mother, for whom I need help, is
28, received radiation therapy to her chest when she was treated for
Hodgkin's Disease twelve years ago. She had tried to breastfeed her
first child, who is now five years old, with minimal success. She had
used a supplemental feeding tube device with that child, but she got
discouraged because her milk supply was so inadequate. She wants to give
breastfeeding another try and is willing to use a feeding tube device
again. Have any of you Lactnetters had a case similar to this? The
mother and I have discussed the fact that whatever breastmilk the baby
receives is better than no breastmilk as well as the wonderful benefits
derived from the bonding opportunity and special relationship of just
having her baby at breast. Looking forward to your replies, TIA.
