Hi from Cincinnati, Dee Keith IBCLC here, LLL Leader < Mother of 10 . Haven't been here for a while so I thought a small intro appropriate. Have a mother of 5 , age 39, mother is taking thryoid meds., recently changed to a bovine based med. from a swine based med. because even though the medication level was high . She was still experiencing symptoms of low levels of thryoid. Had a benighn tumor on thryoid removed at age 8 years. Has a self- described auto-immune disorder . Has successfully breastfed all of her children until over 12 monthes of age . Weaned last child approximately 22 monthes ago. Experienced repeated bouts of plugged ducts and breast infections on involved breast with last two nursing experiences. Breast was frequently painful and remains so from time to time now. This past week while bathing mother nited that nipple appeared to be slightly crusted as if milk leaked out. Washed and expressed some bloody material from the afore mentioned side. Has had a mamagram which showed nothing. Surgeon believes that she probably has an intraductal papilloma. Surgeon commented that since she has five children she won't be needing that breast anymore anyway, so it shouldn't matter that when she is done she won't be able to breastfeed on that side. Mother does have 2 maternal great aunts who had breastcancer post menopause. Her own mother has peritoneum cancer possiably from asbestos exposure. Her maternal grandmother stomache cancer. This family has not decide for sure not to have more children, or possiably adopt. mother expresses a strong desire to breastfeed in either case. I suggested a sonagram, and needle asperation of involved area. There is no lump or area except the possiable ductal area that this blood came from. The surgeon says she has no protical for anything other than removal of a piece of the breast tissue. What is the protical for removal of intraductal papilloma's? Who would know how to handle this type of possiable problem? E-Mail me privately. So I'M sure to get it. Thanks all In advance.
