I'm trying to get caught up with Lactnet, and I didn't see much of a response to your questions. You mention giving articles, Alison's thesis, and Brian Palmer's tape to your docs, but how about Evelyn Jain's video? It's a bit pricey IMO, but I've found it useful because it specifically addresses assessment, precautions, and demo's how to do a frenotomy. I don't often run into situations like you describe with a hospitalized infant whose doc refuses to snip--we usually just find another doc to do the frenotomy after D/C if the baby's doc refuses. We've had some changes in attitude in the reluctant ones after mothers have come back and reported the improvement in nursing, but the change has been slow. Anyway, if you could actually get the Pediatricians to come (that impresses me right there!) how about a presentation featuring Dr. Jain's video and a case presentation by you and one of the GP's? Info on Dr. Jain's video can be obtained by writing or calling the Lakeview Breastfeeding Clinic, 6628 Crowchild Trail S.W., Calgary, Alberta, Canada T3E5R8, phone (403) 246-7076.
