Jan 6 note on ORTs/Becky Engel lists apple, orange or grape juc plus honey or
corn syrup--I don't know how old this recipe is, but the 3 juices are nowhere
near alike in calories, sugars, potassium--and "apple juice diarrhea" is a
well ;documented phenomenon--lots of babies and toddlers "unknown origin"
diarrhea can be traced to the peculiar fruit sugars in apple (and some pear)
juices. this would just aggravate the original problem IMHO.

also, honey is a known carrier of botulinum spores and babies have been known
to contract botulism because they don't have the acids older kids and adults
do in their stomachs to destroy the spores before they grow and give off the
toxin --WIC literature and others for years have advised against using honey
for infants, and some suspicion has been given to corn syrup as well, though
that is so heavily processed its hard to figure how spores would survive/...

As another lactnetter pointed out, feeding still is better than a clear liquid
diet, particularly for any longer than 12 hours (see Child of Mine, Feeding
with GOod sense, by Ellyn Satter, or WHO publications as well) and
breastfeeding helps healing... THanks...
