Hi, in response to Lechia Davis's post on refreezing breastmilk, secretory IgA
is more resistant to being broken down than most proteins (it needs to be stable
so it isn't broken down too easily in the gut), and can survive freezing and
thawing. Immune protection in breast milk also comes from other proteins,
peptides, carbohydrates, lipids and cells, some of which, particularly the
cells, WILL be inactivated by freezing and thawing. So, frozen/thawed breastmilk
is less protective than unfrozen milk, but still greatly superior to ABM.
