In the November 6, 1996 edition of the New York Daily News, the column
"Communities" written by Joyce Shelby, Daily News Staff writer talks
about an organization called the Caribbean Women's Health Association;
among their activities are maternal and children's programs. Two
clients mentioned in the article say that CWHA was "instrumental in
helping them get health services during their pregnancies and infant
formula afterward."
CWHA has six community centers in two of New York City's five boroughs.
They probably refer women to the WIC program for the infant formula. Of
course it is entirely possible that they teach women the advantages of
breastfeeding; but this wasn't mentioned in the newspaper article.
I don't think we are "closing the gap" on this one, either.
