Marilee, 30 calories per ounce is a lot!!! Even with our tiniest premies who have a lot of trouble with wt. gain, we don't usually go that high on calories. Something else we use is MCT oil - medium chain triglyceride oil that babies tend to be able to absorb easier than the long chains. Another additive we use is Polycose.  Our lactnet dieticians can shed more light on these additives.  Does this mom have a large enough supply that she could pump and give the hindmilk?  A creamatocrit can be done on the hindmilk vs. the foremilk in the hospital lab - maybe that would be convincing enough for the docs??  I don't know if this helps any - keep us informed.
