Jay--Darvocet is a combination of acetominophen (Tylenol) and propoxyphene (Darvon), a synthetic narcotic. We use it quite often in postpartum mothers, including bf ones, with no obvious problems. Doesn't cause the sedation (or constipation) that the morphine derivatives (like Codiene) cause in some moms. Haven't seen any really significant sedation in bf babies, either. So she should be able to take the med without any worries about her milk supply or the baby being affected. As far as the blood clot goes, it's because of the risk of the clot dislodging that they have to confine her to bed for awhile. The Heparin & (eventually) Coumadin won't "dissolve" the clot, they just prevent it from getting larger while the body reabsorbs it. In 11 years as an OB nurse I've seen many women with blood clots--haven't seen one death yet. So hopefully she'll follow that trend. I'll still keep her in my prayers. Carol
