Hello all, I have been asked by our hospital LC's for some well-documented case studies for finger feeding. We are having some difficulty with our Neonatal doc's. They have started writing '"No Finger Feeding" orders on normal newborns with breastfeeding problems in the hospital that they are following for one reason or another. One told me that it thought it was "silly". One thinks it causes "gaging and choking". We just now have gotten them to keep expressed breastmilk for 48 hours instead of just 24 hours in the NICU for the preemies...only because there was enough journal studies to convince them. Are they any good journal articles on finger feeding for supplementation on term babies out there? This is the only way we will get any support from the Neo docs. They absolutely feel that bottle feeding is necessary prior to breastfeeding in all preemies and they do not believe in nipple confusion or prefrerence..etc etc. We really want to get on line with supporting breastfeeding in our hospital...but the Neo's are a big obstacle...any ideas? Thanks from Seton Medical Center Austin Texas PS One of the Neo docs call this "Fanatic Net" instead of Lactnet......so you can understand our situation... Donna [log in to unmask]
