I am relying on all the great minds on Lactnet to help me on this one. I have a Mom who is using a pump to build up a supply for when she goes back to work. The problem is going to be when she returns to "work". She is a bank examiner and is gone for sometimes a week to 10 days at a time. This mom is very adament about returning to work, so needless to say, I am not going to convince her to try to postpone her return or to "part-time" it for a while. My question is, has anyone else worked with a Mom who has this type of schedule, and if so, how did they handle the milk that was pumped while away? How were they able to transport the milk---FEDEX, UPS, ???? Also--after frozen milk or "refrigeratored" milk has been warmed for use, how long can that milk sit out at room temperature (or cooler with air conditioning)? My first thought is that "room temperature" is "room temperature" and the guidelines for the refrigeratored/frozen milk just switch over to the guidelines for milk kept at room temperature. This of course is in respone to the babysitter who thaws too much milk at a time and the mother who doesn't want to dump breastmilk down the drain.
