Barbara Wilson-Clay said it excellently:
>My impression is that babies who won't breastfeed are babies who can't.

I have this to say: AMEN! YES! RIGHT ON! And furthermore.... if they
can't, the mother's milk supply needs to be maintained another way (pump,
express) and baby fed another way to keep up calories until the cause is
identified and remedied.

We should be very, very worried about so many babies who can't breastfeed.
This isn't normal. These babies are at high risk for starvation, at the very
least. And possibly other problems as well. All you researchers out there -
HEADS UP. Your (our) challenge is to identify those who can't suck, and find
out "why not" in collaboration with other providers, and how to prevent the
events and situations that cause babies to be unable to breastfeed.
