Coach Smith here with a bit of last-minute advice for those taking the IBLCE exam this year: Trust your gut, trust the mother, and trust mother's milk. If you have a great deal of emphathy with moms, know what makes breastfeeding work, and have at least skimmed some of the most common books, you'll do OK. Get a good night's sleep - do NOT stay up late and cram. Go to a movie, a park, or do something not related to breastfeeding. What you know will come back to you, and cramming won't make new stuff stick at the last minute. Don't compare answers with your friends afterward - it only makes you nuts. Many people leave the exam feeling like they've failed. Remember, the passing grade is usually in the mid-60's. Allow yourself to miss some questions - the highest score ever has been 92. That means the person missed at least 8 questions. Do NOT change an answer unless you are POSITIVE the first choice was absolutely wrong, because research shows that the first hunch is usually right. If you absolutely don't know, guess. You still have a 25% chance of getting it right. Look for the obvious answer - don't try to read more into the question. Each question is looking for only ONE concept. Tell yourself "I know the answers because I know how to help mothers" over and over again, and REALLY BELIEVE IT. Good luck! Linda Smith, Dayton OH
