Hi All, Does anyone out in lacland have a breastfeeding friendly protocol for treating hypoglycemia in the neonate? Our policy now states that if the one touch heel stick is between 20-40 the baby MUST be supplimented with 1/2 ounce of formula. We would like to see this changed to allowing the infant to go to breast or fingerfeeding colostrum . Also is anyone using pedialite in the absence of colostrum? Would this be enough to raise the blood sugar without introducing formula to a breastfed baby? Any references would be appreciated-TIA Jane in sunny southern N.H.
