Jonathan, Interestingly, iron sufficiency in breastfed infants is related to the exclusiveness of breastfeeding. Feeding other foods actually decreases the absorbtion of iron from mom's milk. A recent Italian study showed no anemia at all in the excluseively breastfed group (no vitamins, absolutely no other substances than human milk) that received no solids before 7 months. I posted a long post on this issue, including references, about a month ago. Check the archives. Catherine Watson GEnna, IBCLC NYC [log in to unmask]
