After months of lurking and a few private responses to questions raised on Lactnet, I have decided it is time to introduce myself. My name is Karen Grue and my background in lactation includes three breastfed children (boys 14 and 12, and a 7-yr-old girl), 10 years with La Leche League and IBCLC certification since 1987. I am also a nurse. (BTW, a special hello to colleagues in North Carolina; my degree is from Duke U. and I have many fond memories of my years there.) I currently work at The Edmonton Breastfeeding Clinic and teach the prenatal breastfeeding class in a hospital-based prenatal series. I also do some speaking to other groups such as nurses and nursing students. During a recent Career Week at my daughter's school, I was invited by her teacher to speak to all the grade one students about my job at the clinic. It was a terrific opportunity to influence not only 60-some youngsters, but two as-yet childless young teachers as well! It was great fun and well-received. Thanks to all who share so freely of your experience and expertise. I am enjoying learning from you and look forward to contributing to the discussion. Karen Grue R.N., B.Sc.N., I.B.C.L.C.
