Mary Lofton(Loftus?) at LLLI told me once that ABM companies "promote" bf because studies have shown that people who start out bf tend to be more health conscious and use abm significantly longer than those who start out on abm and go to straight cow's milk or other foods sooner. They certainly are not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They reinforce the idea that only tiny newborns breastfeed and then use ABM into late infancy or even toddlerhood.
