Well, I have seen the controversial ads at last! They were great! While they would shock this cow town population into fits, they were thought provoking and very tastefully and professionally done. I have no problem with an ad that shows breasts (being nursed from or not) used to promote breastfeeding or breastfeeding products and clothing as long as they don't misrepresent. These ads are wonderful and very direct. Wish I could do something like that here but too many people here are ultra conservative (unfortunately, ultra conservative types are often formula feeders!) Why are people talking about breastfeeding stores, companies and whatever marketing like formula guys? What's the big deal? Aggressive ad and marketing is how the formula buds got where they are today, why shouldn't we progress the same (not taking part in any questionable business practices, of course that goes without saying). Maybe breastfeeding and mother's milk will become bigger than formula if advertised and marketed aggressively and then we will all have to find a new line of work (of course, I am talking about those of you who are lucky enough to get paid for what you do)! It would be great to see breastfeeding commercials during soap operas instead of formula and bottle commercials; even breastpump commercials would be wonderful! How come there hasn't been any breastpump commercials? Don't want to raise a big fuss but it seems that if M----a or A----a/E----l would advertise some of their stuff then moms wouldn't buy that E-----o or G----r pump from this discount pharmacies and stores! That would cut my phone time in half! It would be great! I should shut up now before I get into trouble while I get carried away (my posts always seem to get a few negative responses no matter what they are about these days, but like bad breath, I am always back in the morning!) By the way, does anyone know if any other e-mail groups exist other than Lactnet, Lactivist and LLLOL that advocates (not necessarily IBCLCs) can be a part of? Would like to get involved in a different level with a broader population of participants. Not bashing those groups at all, just looking for a more casual climate. Melissa Brancho Who is still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up (I hope it happens before my kids pass me by)!
