Kris,
Thank you for your thoughts about my post. Because I am talking to this
mother's sister, and not her, I hesitate (I would anyway, as I am not this
kind of counselor, nor do I yet have this kind of intimate rapport with our
League mom) to bring up sexual abuse. It's helpful to me, however, to hear
this thought of yours--any and all that might shed light on the how and why
of this situation, as well as concrete information about compromised
nutrition (as in anorexia) and breastfeeding and failure-to-thrive, is
helpful to me as I go about gathering information and continue to talk to the
sister.
I am not sure if the anorexia existed when this mother's other two were
infants. The sister said that the mother's doctor is aware that there was a
history of anorexia, but possibly not aware that the mother is currently
anorexic.
The most important aspect of this situation is that the baby is hardly
gaining any weight. It is horrifyingly interesting that the mother seems to
have all the milk (witness the stored 200 ounces) but that the baby is not
getting enough.
