Hello Everyone, I have recently been NO MAIL so if you discussed this last month I missed it! Anyway, I have a very impatient Mom I'm seeing and want to know if anyone out there has any additional ideas for her. Baby gags scratched and pulls off the breast during letdown. Baby also gassy and crampy about 1hour after feed. Feedings a battle. Here are the suggestions we are currently trying: 1. Nurse on one side per feed, if baby wants breast within 1 1/2 hour give same side. 2. Nurse before baby is fully awake. 3. Keep environment low key, dark and quiet (Baby nurses beautifully during the night feeds) 4.Use a prone position Mom on her back and baby across her stomach 5. Burp frequently. 6. Nurse every 2-3 hrs.in daytime. Does anyone have experience treating overactive letdown? How long does it take to see some adjustment in supply/force. I have also heard of some LC's using a nipple shield to reduce force of flow and to help reduce stimulation but we have not resorted to this yet. Mom is a real type A first time Mom, always worried about EVERYTHING! I am also treating another Mom for the same thing yet she seems more patient. Both Moms had pitocin during or right after delivery, has anyone else seem this problem in other women who had pitocin? Just curious as to its cause.... Robin B. Frees, BA, IBCLC Malvern, PA USA
