A patient I saw after delivery said she had been bleeding from both breasts during most of her pregnancy. The MD advised not to bf. I expressed her breasts postpartum, and it looked as if pure blood was coming out. The LC I was working with suggested to the MD that it was probably an intraductal papilloma, and showed him Ruth Lawrence's discussion of same suggesting it would be benign. The mother pumped for a couple days, the bleeding stopped, milk came in, and she breastfed. (All this from memory, but I think it's about right.) Arly Helm [log in to unmask]
