Ann: I don't know where they got the statement that this drug gets into breast milk. Often, there is a generalization based on all drugs of that class regardless of mode of administration, so if the orally administered steroid is known to enter breast milk then the generalization is made for all, even if breast milk levels were never done with other forms. I don't have any actual data for flonase, but one of the known advantages of nasally administered steroids is their low absorption into the bloodstream, therefore the lower risk of steroid side effects compared to taking them orally. It is likely that the amount in mother's blood and therefore her milk is very small. If prednisone taken orally is compatible with breastfeeding, then this is unlikely to be a problem. Alicia.
