The post about the MD who wanted the mom to take progresterone so she
would bleed after 14 months of lactational amenorrhea was interesting. I
have never heard of any increased risk of uterine cancer connected with
this. There is reason for concern with women who may be exposed to
unopposed estrogen which stimulates the uterine lining and can increase
the risk of uterine CA.  However, my understanding of the physiology of
lactational amenorrhea is that lactation suppresses estrogen production
in many women, therefore the concern about uterine cancer in this case
would seem misplaced.  I have done numerous paps on moms who are
lactating and not having periods yet, and their tissues frequently
remind me more of what I see in menopausal women who don't have HRT than
anything else.  Perhaps one of the physicians on the list could address
this question.
