Dear Patricia, from your 7 Jan. post: > on reflection of this it is the "old boys attitude" through and through >and no one gets up and SCREAMS this is not acceptable. I'm screaming! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! As a man, I can't believe other men can feel this way, let alone that a large number of women agree with them. How can anyone who pretends to be "civilized" think such a thing? My hope is that it was a flawed survey, although I can't imagine what kind of questions could lead to such answers. Can you give me a reference to the surveys? I'd really like to see the questions that were asked. > there was the incident in Japan... the c.o.' s comment was for what they >spent renting the car they could have bought the sex..... With respect to the incident in Japan, I don't pretend to understand the military mind. To the outsider (me), this gives weight to the old joke that "military intelligence" is an oxymoron. Perhaps the CO belonged to the group that thinks rape is OK, or perhaps he thought he was standing behind his troops by pooh-poohing it. To my mind, the only acceptable response is rage, and noone with an attitude that fails to condemn rape belongs in a high-level position. Jonathan
