I wonder if anyone out there has come across a woman whose breasts were lanced when she was a baby. If the baby had what is known as 'witches milk', and an over-enthusiastic (misguided) doctor or midwife lanced the baby's breasts ..... what would be the consequences for the baby as an adult woman trying to breastfeed? In the case I saw the woman appeared to be unable to produce enough milk in two lactations. She had a lot of support, perhpas esp. second time. There appeared to be a family history of 'witches milk'. I wonder whether the lancing was connected - part of me says that so much development of the breast is still to come, but I wonder. Was lancing common practice at one time? I can find no references to it in UK . TIA Mary Broadfoot, Paisley, Scotland [log in to unmask]
