I liked middle-of-the night nursings with my babies because my mother-in-law
wasn't staring over my shoulder staring & criticizing us. And there's nothing
more beautiful than a sleeping child next to you. If a kid wakens, there's a
NEED that should be attended to, period. I don't sleep through the night at
49 years old, even when I have a bowl of cereal just before retiring! Why
should I expect a baby to do what I can't/don't do?

Total sleep is more important to most of us and probably more biologically
normal than straight-through sleeping, and probably more common around the
world. The "in thing" now is executive recharge sessions (naps).
