After a few weeks of reading all the wonderful information on LACTNET (plus one
failed attempt at sending this message), I feel the need to come out of the
woodwork and ask for all of your help. I have been an certified LC for 2 years
at a 120 bed hospital but can only work with lactation part-time since I an
really employed as a labor and delivery nurse( I have been unable to talk admin.
into making my LC position full-time). As for personal history, I am married
and have 3 sons ( 22 year old indentical twins and a 20 year old son who were
all breastfed ).
In the past 2 months I have started cup-feeding some of the breastfeeding
infants that were unable to latch-on successfully in the hospital and have even
sent several babies home cup-feeding with successful breastfeeding occurring
shortly thereafter. I have the cup-feeding video and one journal article about
cup-feeding
but due to some reservation on the part of the staff on the safety of
cup-feeding at home by the breastfeeding moms, I need any info or policies on
cup-feeding in and outside of the hospital setting. One nursery nurse bought
back a horror story of a baby dying at home because the mother was cup-feeding
it. At the hospital that sent
the baby home cup-feeding, babies are now only cup-fed by the nursery nurses in
the nursery. Thanks in advance for any info.
