Got a question for you all!! I have to admit that I get all sort of strange calls from hospitals. Received a call from the south. A cardiac baby- chylo thorax that was intolerant of the long chain fatty acids. The mother was dedicated to breastfeeding or at least pumping for her baby. The hospital decided it could spin off the fat and give the infant the "skim" milk part of the milk. They in turn added the medium chain fatty acids and tested the milk for the long chain fatty acids. What was interesting was the mother was pumping on the classic, 015 during the day and lactina, 016 during the night. The nurse that contacted me, asked if I had ever seen a difference in composition from the 015 vs 016. She said that once she extracted out the fat content there was a difference between the milk viscosity and color from the 015 vs the 016. Was wondering if anybody else has ever seen this??? I know that there are many different types of sucks babies do on each mother. I have observed some mothers nipples are very sensitive and can feel the difference between the the cycling of the the classic vs the cycling of the lactina even though the pressures are the same. Some moms can pump on anything where others are very selective. Want some input from out there!!!
