A mom whose 8 month old bit her nipple which is now cracked and bleeding
(when the scab falls off) is afraid to breastfeed on that side because of
fear of her blood (RH-) mixing with the baby's blood (RH+). Doesn't blood mix
through the placenta?? I can't see how this could be a problem; after all,
breastfeeding in the postpartum period with cracked nipples is fairly common,
and I've never heard of contraindications in the case of RH factor. The mom
says she received 3 injections (Rhogam??) during pregnancy and was told that
her blood and the baby's blood shouldn't mix. Is there a reference I could
quote to this mother?
