The discussion on abbreviations and terminology has been very interesting and I've been thinking a lot about the words we use. I also don't like the abbreviation Bm for breast milk, and the posts about "human milk" vs "breast milk" made me realize I much prefer the term "human milk." It takes away all the hang-ups our culture is cursed with regarding the word breast. And if we called it "human milk feeding"(or just infant feeding, feeding, etc.--and I still prefer "nursing" despite the confusion in other countries) instead of "breastfeeding," maybe my radio station would read the LLL meeting notices I send in! I don't like the term "maternal milk" because all mammal mothers provide "maternal" milk. Leslie Ayre-Jaschke, BEd, IBCLC Peace River Breastfeeding Clinic Peace River Alberta, Canada
