One thing I want to say about med student teaching is that they are
likely to get a chart or lecture on the comparison of abm to human milk. I
think comparing them ie in the form of Na levels, iron levels, protein,
fat, etc is really dangerous...I recall when I was a resident learning this
for like the 3rd time, thinking hmm...abm is actually better because it has
more iron, more protein, etc. They need to understand that absorption of
the 2 entities are so much different, that comparisons are meaningless. I
also strongly agree with Dr. Hale's comments, they love case reports, and
working thru actual cases. By doing this, they will understand when to
refer to lactation consultants.-Anne EGlash
