I'm sorry I've closed my digest and forgotten the name of the person asking what one of these is... It looks like a silicone thimble with a silastic tube at the bottom which attaches to a 2 ml syringe - a little more complicated with one way locks or something as well between the syringe and the 'thimble'. When the 'thimble' is placed over the inverted nipple (which is what it is designed for) and suction is created by withdrawing on the syringe it is meant to draw the nipple out. Apparently it is meant to be worn for increasing lengths of time and the manufacturers say it's fantastic... I don't really buy the bit about the nipple stimulation being sufficient to cause labour (I believe that's what the FDA said, I just don't believe it would), but Joy's point about losing the suction due to colostrum buildup sounds reasonable.
