God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind I will never die. I didn't write that, but that's the way it is. I have become an addicted Lactnet reader because I so enjoy "hearing" you speak when I so rarely hear Americanese, your humor, and the things I learn and many which I can use for my classes. Now that the art exhibit is over I can start reading again and put my 2 cents into Lactnet. Sorry it's so late. First, the art exhibit: We displayed 52 artists, (21 men) on 3 floors of the library. Pieces well arranged but in surprising places. We even have a "Quiet Corner" with rocking chair. We used a double entendre since breastfeeding in German means "to quiet." There the pictures with nursing animals were hung. For the opening, I spoke, covering the issues of BFHI and BF Week which we are celebrating next week in Germany. A young mother danced a modern dance she choreographed, after her "life partner" read a poem she had composed. Another woman read short poems. That was a success. The ambience of the evening was very nice and I had lots of pos. feedback. See what the press has to say! We even had a radio station interview. If anyone wants to undertake a similar project, be prepared for much work! If I didn't have the professional and volunteer help from an expert to hang the show I don't know what would have happened. We transformed the hectic of the library. Disappointing was that only one dr. was there - the head of the OBGYN of our local hospital. So far there have been no purchases, tho there is interest. Positive Images of BF: 1. Time International ad for a Turkey stock exchange company: "Probably the world's most "user-friendly" stock exchange." over a soft orange-pink foto of a nursing baby - and perfectly positioned to boot! 2.Found in a catolog advertising new books:" Picture Books: Mothersmilk for the smallest children." That's nourishing. At the art exhibit a table of books portraying BF was set up too, but none of the children's books were attractive. Who's heard of the English book, "Emily's a Guzzlegut!"? Lovely! 3. Probably most of you know this, but Roseanne comes here late. One scene showed her sister breastfeeding during her wedding ceremony. She had to change sides before doing the kiss. Lots of leaky let-down scences on other days. (We were on vacation in the mts. of Austria, otherwise I don't see Roseanne either!)
