Katherine, The Navy did not produce the SIDS pamplet. I will track down the source when I return to work. It does not advocate co-sleeping. The article states that the crib mattress is typically firmer than the parent's bed and recommend parents not co-sleep with babies. I know our Peds Dept supports BFing but the SIDS material that has been circulated speaks strongly against co-sleeping. The phamplet that is produced for the Navy speaks of the pregnant service-member's responsibilities to the Navy and the responsibilities of the Navy to the pregnant service-member . In this tri-fold phamplet, the original info was created in 1986. At that time, it did not mention BFing , then in ' 88 it just stated that a woman could BF and now we have a 1990 update which states BFing can be done on lunch and during breaks. This material can easily be shared with others. Basically, it is trivia for most people. Lets not forget . . . women have only been permitted to be pregnant while serving on active duty since 1975 (just when the Vietnam war ended). Change is very slow but at least it is changing for the better. Latch on to Life ...karen
