For Kelly Richardson -- me and Cathy Liles are working on making Bryan/College Station more breastfeeding friendly. Only in Texas (we hope) would a mom have to pump in a pick-up truck. For Kris Rodgers -- the work on the relationship between % body fat and age at menarche is by Rose Frisch and colleagues. Any literature search should turn up at least some of her stuff, if not the Scientific American article per se. Sara Quandt also has a nice article out about this titled something like "Nutritional Thriftiness" about why evolution has selected for a physiological mechanism that won't let you get pregnant unless you have the energy reserves you need to successfully get through a pregnancy and lactate for several years. Re the Christian parenting curriculum -- it has reached us in Bryan. A good "antidote" is Liz Baldwin's "So I Nursed Him Every 45 Minutes" from Mothering. It counteracts each of the claims made in the "raising children God's way" curricula, without ever mentioning it by name. Re the usefulness of the list -- so skip the posts that aren't of use to you! I admit I sometimes don't read the ones on drugs. I for one think the list is wonderful, I have learned tons of information, not to mention incredible respect for all of you in the trenches who help mothers every day, and I think the Kathleen's are wonderful to run the list! My .02 worth, and yes, I'm biased. About everything. Kathy Dettwyler [log in to unmask]
