Dear Lisa and everyone, We indicated some time ago (before other time pressures ran us over!) that we'd had some interesting experiences with breastfeeding mothers who have thyroid disorders. Fairly briefly, if the woman is fortunate enough to have her problem diagnosed (more difficult if she is pregnant or lactating) then she can be treated and continue to breastfeed with no more difficulties than anyone else has. For hyperthyroidism some drugs are certainly more preferable than others for a breastfeeding woman and at least one is contraindicated. Anne Bovey and Robyn Noble, Brisbane, Australia
