Marie, I think that the dietitian is on the right track. Leaving bits of nutritious food out for baby to take on her own is probably the best policy. Is she allowed to feed herself, or do the parents shovel it in at the highchair/table? Is baby offered similar foods to what the family is eating at meals? One other question that I would have is whether there is a history of food allergies in the family. Sometimes babies start solids slowly because they aren't handling them well. My second born refused solids for two months (age 6-8 mos) after getting a throat infection that didn't clear easily; I imagine that the discomfort of swallowing solids discouraged him for a while. Allergenic babies don't always show other symptoms, but just seem to know. Hard to say, but a family history may be helpful in the assessment.
